Role of the Community

From the formation of the Local Conversations Panel, there has been one stipulation made clear to all that sit on the Panel and that is that they have the ownership of the whole process and they would solely be responsible in making decisions relating to the People’s Health Trust. BwD Healthy Livings role is to ensure that when the Panel need the support, that they provide it whilst re-emphasising that collectively they have the local control of all the process and subsequent actions. The Local Conversations Panel understands that they need to have an understanding to help shape and deliver the programme that will benefit the Highercroft area. This has been supported by the completion of an action plan which has helped them to decide what they would like to see happen and when. The Panel will also be at the centre of decision making when it comes to which partners they feel should help them achieve what is on the action plan.

The action plan includes key themes around which projects will be based. The themes are: youth activities; cleaner, greener; safer; wellbeing. The plan also includes a small grants scheme where local groups will be able to access up to £500 for small community projects.
This funding has also provided 2 local people with a part time Community Worker job.

“Our mission is to enable the people living in the Highercroft area, to improve their quality of life by working together in creating opportunities for the community, individuals and families to be the best they can possibly be”
